Ultimate Victoria have announced that for the first time there will be a Women’s division in the Victorian Ultimate League (VUL) and Ellipsis are keen to enter a team.
The VUL
In it’s second year, the VUL is essentially the State League for ultimate. It is the highest level of ultimate that you can play in Victoria, without playing on an elite Nationals team. The VUL is perfect for up-and-comers who are keen to improve and potentially make an elite Nationals team in the future, or for those that are unable to commit to the requirements of a full women’s season.
The VUL runs over three “game days” between December 2016 and February 2017, with a final to be held in March. The events could be held anywhere in the state (Geelong, Bendigo, Wodonga, Ballarat, etc). The venues are yet to be finalised, but the dates for the upcoming season are as follows:
- 3rd December
- 14th January
- 18th February
- 18th March (Finals)
Normally you are only eligible for the VUL if you have not played at the previous Div 1 Australian Ultimate Championships (in this case: 2016 in Ballarat), but as this is the first time there is a Women’s division, Ultimate Victoria are allowing two “Nationals” players on each team.
The Team
We are looking to have around 15 women on the team. We’d like everyone to play each Game Day, however it will be possible to still make the team if you are unavailable one week.
The team will be coached by 2016 Ellipsis Women’s Head Coach, Matt Hill. Matt will be using similar tactics and strategies that helped Ellipsis win the National Championships this year.
There will be a few team specific training sessions, but VUL team members will also be invited to train with the Ellipsis Women’s team on a few occasions throughout the season.

If this sounds like something you are interested in, please click the Sign Up button below and fill out the expression of interest form. Depending on the amount of interest, we may run a selection event for the team. But more information regarding that will be emailed to you when we have a better idea of numbers.
FAQs
I played Div II Nationals in 2016, does that make me a “Nationals” player?
Nope, only Div I Nationals counts. You’re still eligible to play VUL!
Can I still play on the Ellipsis VUL team if I’m planning to play the Women’s season with another club?
Yep, that’s totally fine.
I am trying out for the Ellipsis Womens team, if I make it can I potentially play both?
Yep, that’s totally fine.
