Ellipsis Ultimate would like to announce the appointment of Lee Baker, who will take over from Matt Hill as the Head Coach of their National Champion women’s team.
Lee Baker
Lee has competed in both Volleyball and Ultimate at the highest level, being coached by some of the best in both sports.
He started playing elite-level sport at 13, and over the following 10 years represented Victoria and Australia, locally and overseas in Volleyball. He as participated in National team (hard court and beach) camps and won MVP for his state league team. Throughout this playing career, he coached junior (school age) and lower level state league teams, aiming to bring out the best in his players.
Unfortunately, the very best of coaches can not ‘teach tall’ and he switched to Ultimate. From the outset, he contributed behind the scenes on all the teams he was selected to play on. He has coached U23 Australian Men’s team (Goannas) in 2010, to 5th; the Melbourne University team (bronze in 2007, gold in 2012), and captained and coached within his club team Chilly (including 2009 Champions).
As a player he was selected to the Australian Mixed team (Barramundis) in 2008, achieving 4th. He has also represented his clubs internationally in 2006 (Chilly; 3rd), 2010 (Fire of London; 23rd), 2014 (Chilly Masters; 4th) and nationally, including four national championships (Chilly; 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009).
As you can see he has always striven for excellence and his work ethic and competitive nature has kept him at the top of his chosen sports for over 20 years. This is what he brings to Ellipsis, a commitment to be the best we can be and the gut wrenching hard work to get there.
We look forward to having Lee on board and learning from his experiences as both an elite player and coach. Welcome Lee!
