Cheok signs on as Assistant Coach

Cheok Funn Lee has signed on as the Ellipsis Women’s Assistant Coach for the 2017 season. Cheok’s appointment bolsters our coaching lineup, which already includes Lee Baker as Head Coach, with more announcements on the way.

Playing Experience

Cheok started playing Ultimate in 2010 at Melbourne University, where he won two Silvers and a Gold with the team in his four years there. He has been a part of the Heads of State Ultimate club since 2012, playing in the open team which won Bronze at Nationals earlier this year.

In 2013, Cheok played with the Australian Men’s team at the World U23 Ultimate Championships in Toronto, coming away with Bronze. That same year, he won Gold at the Asia Oceanic Ultimate Club Championships in Singapore with Ellipsis, in their first ever tournament.

Coaching Experience

As a coach, Cheok has worked across a variety of different levels from primary school up. In 2015, he was the Assistant Coach of the Australian women’s team which came fourth at the World U23 Ultimate Championships in London. This year, he was the Assistant Coach of the Ellipsis team which won Bronze at AMUC, and is currently the Head Coach of the Victorian U22 Women’s team.

Cheok subscribes to the mantra “defense wins championships“, bringing defensive grit and intensity to each team he is a part of, whether as a player or a coach.

We are looking forward to having him help bring Ellipsis’ team defense to the next level this year.
